Discovering My Roots Through Art: An Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I'm Luis Humberto Espinosa, an Ecuadorian-born artist and architect who has called Bahia, Brazil, home for over 60 years. I created this space to share my art, my journey, and the stories that inspire each piece I make. Art, for me, is a way to connect deeply with my roots while also exploring the diverse cultural influences that have shaped me.

A Fusion of Cultures and Landscapes

Born in Quito, I was surrounded by the majestic Andes and the rich indigenous cultures of Ecuador. When I moved to Salvador to study architecture, I was captivated by Bahia’s vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture, the resilience of the Caatinga landscape, and the spiritual energy of its churches and communities. This mix of worlds—Ecuador and Brazil, the Andes and the Caatinga, indigenous and Afro-Brazilian—has become the heart of my artistic expression.

My Artistic Process

My art reflects the diversity of these experiences. I work with various techniques and materials, from traditional methods like acrylics, pastels, and pyrography to modern digital engravings. Each piece is a blend of colors, textures, and forms that explore themes of identity, spirituality, and the human connection to nature. I am constantly experimenting, letting my curiosity guide me toward new techniques and styles.
